I have had a life long career in design, illustration and art management – starting in Cleveland, OH in greeting card illustration and toy design for American Greetings where in 1977 I created the first concept artwork for the Classic Strawberry Shortcake (and over 30 other of her friends) followed by the first 6 Care Bears and Get-Along-Gang characters. When my children were older we left Cleveland. There was short stint in Chicago as giftware art director and then moving on to Norman, OK in 1995 where I was Creative VP for United Design residing over artists and sculptors and traveling internationally. In 2002 we fell in love with Wichita Mountains and decided to build a home in historic, scenic Medicine Park. Here with my husband Michael we make up Big Rock Works Design creating personal art, websites and commercial art work in our mountain bungalow studio.
Now that we are semi-retired we have volunteered our time and talents to other worthwhile local causes. I have designed characters for the Raft Race, Chance McQuacken, and done drawings for the Heart Association and Medicine Park Fire Dept. During the Spirit of Survival I met many Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bear fans and also entertained them playing a part in the Buffalo Elixir Medicine Show at Wagon Camp. I created a new character/ mascot for the Spirit of Survival. Lori Cummins suggested that a Prairie Dog might be cute mascot and she was right!
